Details : Wing Commander Rajat Mohan (20476) Flying (Pilot) was commissioned in Indian Air Force as a fighter pilot in Flying Branch on 16 Dec 1989. He is a combat strike leader. He has held the appointment of directing staff in Tactics and Combat Development Establishment (TACDE) during which he was a part of the Air Force contingent for an International exercise in France. He also planned, coordinated and executed the entire operations of Indo French exercise Garuda III held in Kalaikunda, West Bengal. He has been serving as the commanding officer of a MiG 27 Upgrade Squadron since April 2007. He successfully operationalised the MiG 27 Upgrade aircraft. His efforts were appreciated by all senior dignitaries as it has resulted in a substantial increase in the war waging potential of the IAF He was instrumental in detailed planning of work services for induction of Air Combat Maneuverable Instrumentation System (ACMl) from Israel. With innovative schemes he minimized the cost of work services by Rs 38 lakhs, Under his inspiring leadership the squadron participated in numerous domestic exercises and performed admirably. He used his experience and expertise to improve the training standards of the squadron. He laid greater emphasis on up-gradation and safety consciousness. He ensured nearly 4300 sorties/ 3550 hours of accident or incident free flying without sacrificing the quality of training. Wg Cdr Rajat Mohan's professional attitude, exceptional standards in weapon delivery and air combat skills motivated the squadron pilots to maximize their potential. This was proven in the 'Air armament firing competition' held in December 2008 where the squadron was adjudged the best overall squadron in marksmanship while competing with other modern fleets of IAF This remarkable achievement signifying the improved offensive capability of IAF would not have been possible without his outstanding leadership and professionalism. He initiated various welfare schemes and work services to the tune of Rs 46 lakhs for improvement of working environment for all air warriors and modernization of operational assets. For his exceptional devotion to duty, Hon'ble President is pleased to award 'Vayu Sena Medal' to Wing Commander Rajat Mohan.
